The Portland Pump Station

The Pump Station is a very impressive public works project that routes drainage water in giant pipes along and under the Willamette River.   They come together at the Pump Station. Accessible from street level is a very large ventilation shaft that seems to have no bottom.  There are 4  interior levels.  The 4th is 165 feet underground.

The picture to the left gives you an idea of the scale of the place, and actual, unaltered colors.  And this is the lowest of the 4 levels. The streaks on the walls are due to minerals leaching through the very thick concrete walls.

I had some fun adding a lot of extra drama and creating ‘new worlds’ in the processed images (below).
